Former Finance Minister Seth Terkper is yet to be convinced with his successor’s push for a levy of electronic transactions.
Current Finance Minister Ken Ofori Atta has attempted to justify the imposition of the levy by insisting that the revenue it will generate is badly needed.
Ken Ofori Atta and the entire Nana Akufo-Addo administration has been adamant in its push to get the levy passed in Parliament despite experiencing massive push back from the NDC caucus in Parliament.
The man from whom Ken Ofori Atta inherited the mantle to manage economy in 2017, Seth Terkper agrees with the opposition to the levy.
He told Sena Nombo on the Gold Power Drive that the levy defied all basic rules of taxation.
According to Seth Terkper the levy would affect savings, investments, fees, already taxed income and loans.
He was of the opinion that savings especially were not supposed to be taxed.
The Former Finance Minister who now worked as Executive Director of PFM Tax Africa Network said he was against the E-levy in
principle and on technical grounds.
