That’s the message from the Vice Presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang who has been making a rallying call for all women to back her to become the first female Vice President of the country.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang is the first woman with a realistic chance of occupying one of the two top positions in politics.
Speaking at an event tagged Women in Conversation with Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, the NDC Running mate said her role must be seen as invitation to the family.
She is of the belief that her race for the second highest office of the land would be meaningless if it is not seen as necessary to change the story of the Ghanaian woman.
She said, her nomination to the role of Running mate is evident of the deep respect former President John Mahama has for women.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang said the decision should be seen as a decisive step in the former President’s commitment to let women be in the forefront of decision making.
She said women need to give meaning to the NDC Flagbearer’s decision by throwing their full weight behind his candidature.
The NDC Running mate said her candidature is “not about Naana”; “it’s about all of us who have been on the margin for too long.”
Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang said her nomination is a call to action for all because it would break the glass ceiling that has kept women away from the presidency.
