Members of the LSG were thrown into shock, by the news that our beloved learned colleague, Lawyer Richard Badombie was shot and killed instantly on way to his hometown at Jirapa in the Upper West Region of Ghana.
We continue to mourn our learned colleague painfully by this murder, which resembles a homicide in many respects; and granted that the victim was a law abiding citizen, an officer of the law and courts and we deem it crucial to call on the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to, as a matter of urgency, institute an expeditious investigation into his murder in a bid to bring the perpetrators to book very quickly.
This call is in place also because these gruesome and cold-blooded murders of mainly decent, renowned, and well-meaning citizens of Ghana have become too often, as crimes have remained unanswered, responsibilities reneged by the Police and hope dashed.
The deceased is a respectable and active member of the Law Society of Ghana (LSG) and being an ex-police service person, it is imperative that the Police act with speed in order to allay the fears of all lawyers and other citizens that we could be easily gunned down in broad daylight and be treated as business as usual.
The Law Society of Ghana shall express unwavering interest in the gruesome murder of their learned colleague until the perpetrators are arrested and prosecuted according to due process of law.
Accordingly, we wish to pledge our full support and any assistance that may be needed by the Police in their investigation. We shall be ready to offer our services in watching brief for any prosecution that may result.
We wish to respectfully request of the Police administration provide regular, perhaps, public briefing on the progress of the investigation.
the confidence that Ghana Police can rise to the occasion, and we pray this unbelievable cruelty is unravelled as soon as possible.
We commend the Police on the arrest of three (3) suspects to assist in further investigation.
We express our deepest condolences to the bereaved family and assure them of our unflinching support.
