President John Dramani Mahama has arrived in Alamein, Egypt, to participate in the 8th African Union (AU) Mid-Year Coordination Summit and the maiden Alamein Africa Forum.
The two high-level gatherings are expected to bring together African heads of state, government officials, business leaders and financial institutions to discuss ways of advancing economic integration, sustainable development and investment across the continent.
The Alamein Africa Forum opens on Saturday with an address by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, followed by a keynote address from Nigerian business magnate Aliko Dangote.
President Mahama is also scheduled to deliver the keynote address at a plenary session on the theme, “Investing in Health: Manufacturing and Regional Value Chains.”
His address will focus on the need to reposition health beyond its traditional treatment as a social expenditure and instead recognise it as a strategic economic sector and an investable market.
The session is expected to examine opportunities for strengthening Africa’s capacity to manufacture health-related products and develop regional value chains that can reduce the continent’s dependence on imports while creating jobs and stimulating economic growth.
The 8th AU Mid-Year Coordination Summit of heads of state and government will take place on Sunday.
President Mahama is expected to hold a number of bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the summit, including discussions with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi.
The engagements are aimed at strengthening bilateral and continental partnerships while advancing shared priorities in trade, investment, economic integration and sustainable development.
The Alamein meetings also provide a platform for governments, businesses and financial institutions to explore investment opportunities and forge stronger partnerships to support Africa’s economic transformation.
