John Mahama, the presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), emphasized unity and development during his North East Regional campaign tour. He stated, “Poverty is our enemy, not ourselves,” highlighting the need for Ghanaians to unite against economic challenges.
Mahama, who served as Ghana’s president from 2012 to 2017, reiterated his commitment to inclusive leadership. “When I become president… I’m not president only for Gonjas, I’m president for Mamprusis, I’m president for Frafras…,” he said, naming various ethnic groups.
He cited initiatives from his previous administration, such as upgrading the Gambaga College of Education, which he started despite not being from the area.
However, he expressed disappointment that the project remains abandoned under the governing New Patriotic Party administration.
Mahama vowed to complete abandoned projects nationwide. “When I come, all the projects that we were doing that have been abandoned, we will come and take them and continue and finish them, wherever in the country they are.”
Key Pledges:
- Complete Abandoned Projects: Finish all projects initiated by the previous NDC administration, regardless of location.
- Inclusive Leadership: Represent all ethnic groups, fostering unity and development.
- Economic Growth: Address poverty, the enemy of progress.
