President John Dramani Mahama has moved swiftly to address renewed tensions in the Sawla-Bole area of the Savannah Region, following reports of conflict between the Gonja and Brifor communities.
A statement from the Presidency on Sunday said the President, upon returning from a state visit to Singapore, received a detailed briefing from the National Security Coordinator and the Minister for the Interior on the developments in the area.
While in Singapore, President Mahama held a telephone conversation with the Yagbonwura, Jira Bikunuto Jewu Soale I, to discuss measures aimed at ending the clashes and restoring peace. “The President spoke with the Yagbonwura to deliberate on steps to end the conflict and restore peace between the Gonja and Brifor communities,” the statement said.
As part of the peace-building effort, the President has dispatched a high-level government delegation, led by the Minister for the Interior, Hon. Muntaka Mohamed-Mubarak, to engage the Yagbonwura and other stakeholders in the region. Security in the area has also been reinforced with the deployment of additional police and military personnel to restore order.

President Mahama has urged all parties to support ongoing initiatives to end the conflict, promote dialogue, and ensure law and order. He directed the delegation to work closely with the regional security council, traditional authorities, and community leaders to resolve outstanding disputes and restore normalcy.
