President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to deepening ties with Germany, describing the bilateral relationship as a vital pillar in the country’s international cooperation framework.
The President made the remarks during a farewell courtesy call by outgoing German Ambassador Daniel Krull at the Credentials Hall of the Presidency. The visit marked the conclusion of Ambassador Krull’s four-year tenure in Ghana, which President Mahama described as “highly productive.”
President Mahama commended Germany for its unwavering support to Ghana, especially in strengthening the country’s security framework. He cited Germany’s instrumental role in supporting the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre (KAIPTC) and in delivering targeted capacity-building programs for security personnel.
“Our partnership with Germany has delivered tangible outcomes, particularly in the security sector,” President Mahama said. “We look forward to scaling up this collaboration in response to the evolving challenges in our sub-region.”
The President expressed concern about the rising threat of terrorism across the Sahel and stressed the importance of regional and international cooperation in tackling the menace.
He emphasized Ghana’s readiness to partner with Germany on capacity training and joint security initiatives aimed at enhancing regional stability.
On the issue of irregular migration, President Mahama noted Ghana’s active collaboration with global institutions, including the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) and the European Union (EU).
He stressed the importance of investing in sustainable economic opportunities to curb the root causes of dangerous migratory routes undertaken by the youth.
President Mahama extended heartfelt appreciation to Ambassador Krull for his service and friendship to Ghana.
“We appreciate you. You’re a friend of Ghana. And you’re welcome to visit any time you miss Ghana. I wish you all the best in your future endeavours,” the President said warmly.
Ambassador Krull’s departure brings to a close a chapter of robust Ghana-Germany cooperation, with both countries expressing optimism about building on the strong foundations laid during his tenure.
