Ghana’s President-elect, John Dramani Mahama, has pledged that the incoming National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration will investigate the deaths and injuries that occurred during the recent general elections if the current government fails to take action.

The announcement comes after tragic incidents at Kasoa in the Awutu Senya East constituency and Nyankpala in the Tolon constituency, where two people lost their lives and several others sustained injuries.

These events have raised serious concerns about the safety and fairness of the electoral process.

Speaking during a courtesy call from representatives of the European Union in Ghana, Mahama highlighted the importance of accountability and transparency in upholding Ghana’s democratic values.

He called for a thorough investigation into the incidents to determine their causes and ensure justice for the victims and their families.

“To our young people, we want to thank you for the support before, during, and after the elections,” Mahama said.

“The technical assistance provided, including the contributions from the EU mission, helped ensure a smooth and successful election. However, there were unfortunate incidents that led to the deaths of some individuals. It is our intention to investigate these events thoroughly. If individuals are found culpable, they must face the consequences of their actions.”

Mahama added, “I hope this government will prioritize these investigations immediately. However, if they fail to act, the incoming NDC administration will take it up as a matter of urgency once we assume office.”
Mahama’s comments signal the NDC’s commitment to ensuring justice and maintaining public trust in Ghana’s democratic processes.

As the nation awaits a response from the ruling government, the promise of accountability continues to resonate with many voters.
