A renewed call for fairness, inclusion, and recognition echoed through the maiden Ghana Post Staff Durbar in Accra as the Minister of Communications, Digital Technology and Innovations, Hon. Samuel Nartey George, urged public institutions to reward hard work and create equal opportunities for all employees.
He commended Ghana Post’s management for correcting long-standing inequities by promoting more than 400 staff members who had remained on the same grade for several years, describing the move as a symbol of progress and justice.
“Where people work and commit themselves to the company, the company must show gratitude,” he stressed.
The Minister criticised practices that keep employees stagnant despite years of service, noting that such systems dampen morale and stifle innovation. He urged organisations to adopt transparent promotion processes that reflect performance rather than hierarchy.
Highlighting his commitment to gender inclusion, Hon. George pointed out that Ghana Post now has its first female Managing Director and female Board Chairperson, alongside other women in leadership roles within the sector.
He also shared how a long-serving staff member, Fianko, rose through the ranks to become Director-General of the National Communications Authority (NCA), a decision that initially faced resistance but has since been vindicated by results.
“We must stop overlooking those who have grown through the system. They understand the institution and can deliver,” he said.
The Minister reaffirmed his belief that fairness and mentorship should form the foundation of public service growth. He encouraged senior officers to guide younger staff, while urging junior employees to seize opportunities to learn and improve.
