The Ministry of Education has outlined a new, transparent, and strictly merit-based school placement system for all successful candidates of the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE). The announcement, made by Professor Ernest Kofi Davies, Director General of the Ghana Education Service (GES), on behalf of Minister for Education Haruna Iddrisu, aims to ensure a fair and equitable process for every student.
The 2025 placement, according to the Director-General, will be determined by a candidate’s aggregate score from six subjects: the four core subjects (English, Mathematics, Integrated Science, and Social Studies) and their two best elective subjects. In the event of a tie, raw scores will be used as a final tie-breaker.

Zero Tolerance for Fraud
The Ministry issued a strong warning against fraud, emphasizing that the placement exercise is completely free. Officials urged the public to be vigilant and report any individuals attempting to extort money. They stressed that no payment is required for placement, and any fraudulent activity should be immediately reported to security agencies.
Placement Roadmap and Confirmation Process
To ensure accuracy, the secretariat has initiated a choice confirmation process, which is open from August 27 to September 1, 2025. This allows candidates to verify their selections and correct any errors in their gender, school, or program choices. Candidates can confirm their choices on the official portal, www.cssps.gov.gh. A video guide is also available to assist students and guardians.
The full roadmap for the placement exercise is as follows:
August 23, 2025: BECE Results released
August 27 – September 1, 2025: Text confirmation of choices
September 15, 2025: Placement results published online
September 16, 2025: Call centers and resolution centers activated
October 18-20, 2025: First-year student reopening
The Ministry of Education confirmed its readiness for the placement process and urged candidates and the public to remain calm, assuring them of a smooth and successful transition for all.
