The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration has addressed a viral video purporting the issuance of Ghanaian passports to foreign nationals, categorically refuting these claims as false and baseless.
In a statement, the Ministry asserted that while applicants submit requisite documents for passport applications, the submission of these documents does not guarantee the automatic issuance of a passport.
According to the Ministry, beyond the initial scrutiny of supporting documents, applicants undergo an in-person vetting process. During this crucial stage, additional information is gathered through interviews to substantiate the details provided on the application form, ensuring a thorough verification process.
The Ministry assured the public that it will under no circumstances provide such sensitive security documents to non-nationals. It emphasized the robustness of its systems, highlighting ongoing investments in modern technology and continuous staff training to enhance security protocols.
The Ministry further took reminded the public that the presentation of forged or fake documents for services rendered by the Ministry is a serious offense, punishable by law under sections 158, 166, and 169 of the Criminal Offences Act 1960 (Act 29).
This statement serves to reaffirm the Ministry’s commitment to maintaining the integrity of Ghana’s passport issuance system and to deter any attempts at fraudulent acquisition.
