Newly appointed National Coordinator of the Adwumawura Programme, Bright Botchwey has highlighted policy objectives and initiatives of the program
The Adwumawura Programme is a flagship initiative under the leadership of H.E. John Dramani Mahama, aimed at empowering young Ghanaians through entrepreneurship and sustainable job creation.
PROGRAM OBJECTIVES
Supporting Business Creation – Empower 10,000 young Ghanaians (ages 18–35) annually to start and scale their own businesses.
Providing Essential Services – Deliver skills training, mentorship, start-up capital, and access to necessary business equipment.
Fostering Economic Growth – Tackle youth unemployment while contributing to national economic development.
Promoting Inclusivity – Ensure at least 60% of beneficiaries are from underserved groups, including women in male-dominated fields and persons with disabilities.
Building a Robust National System – Support ideation, acceleration, and long-term success of youth-led enterprises.
Access to Funding – Provide financial resources to help young entrepreneurs succeed.
Integrating Technology – Utilize digital tools and innovation to power business development.
Partnerships and Market Access – Link businesses to markets, investors, and strategic partners.
Monitoring and Evaluation – Implement systems to track progress, measure impact, and ensure accountability.
IMPLEMENTATION & FUNDING
The program is fully funded with GHC 100 million allocated in the 2025 national budget.
The National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP) will spearhead implementation.
An annual Adwumawura Trade Fair and Exhibition will highlight beneficiary innovations and products.
Applications open June 2025, with the first cohort selected by the end of the year.
EXPECTED OUTCOMES
Establish 40,000 youth-owned businesses over four years.
Generate approximately 20,000 jobs annually.
Provide year-round support including business training, funding access, mentorship, technology integration, and advisory services.
