The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Samuel Ofosu Ampofo has dismissed the claim by the Electoral Commission that the new Legislative Instrument (LI) being introduced is to regulate continuous voter registration.
According to him there is nothing in the LI to show that it is solely for continuous voter registration.
The EC has defended the new LI and refuted claims that it was to regulate a new mass voter registration exercise with Ghana card as the only source document.
Speaking to Ransford Kwesi Boakye on Pampaso, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo said the NDC has perused the LI and observed that it was intended to replace the current law for voter registration.
He said the EC only needed to amend the current LI if it wanted a law to regulate continuous voter registration.
Samuel Ofosu Ampofo said the NDC would continue to oppose the EC’s new law because they see it as a ploy to disenfranchise potential voters because most Ghanaians don’t have the Ghana card.
