An aspirant for the parliamentary candidature of the National Democratic Congress in Tema West Rashid Isah yesterday took his supporters by surprise when he at the last minute announced his decision to step down from the race.
Rashid Isah had indicated to Radiogoldlive.com that he would file his nomination yesterday July 19, 2019 after picking up forms on July 12, 2019.
The aspirant did not however file his nomination rather choosing to announce his withdrawal and decision to support Wakefield Ackuaku.
In a statement issued on his behalf by Wise Dickson Ampoti Wis, his Secretary and copied to Radiogoldlive.com, Rashid Isah described his decision as “hard” but believes it is in the interest of the rank and file of the NDC in Tema West.
He said he took the decision to withdraw from the race “after deep assessment, considerations and deliberations with the various power blocks and elders within Tema West Constituency and the NDC at large.”
Rashid Isah in an earlier interview with Radiogoldlive.com was full of confidence that his deep connections with the grassroot of the NDC in Tema West and broad political appeal was not only enough to win him the August 24 primaries but to also annex the seat for the opposition party.
Even though, he underscored this belief in his statement, Rashid Isah is of the view that another aspirant Wakefield Ackuaku shares similar attributes but has the added advantage of the political experience required to win the seat for the NDC in 2020.
He has therefore thrown his weight behind Wakefield Ackuaku and has pledged his commitment to working to ensure the victory of the NDC in Tema West and Ghana as a whole in 2020.
“I have therefore decided to rally my support behind my big brother who has lots of experience in politics and beliefs in the ideologies of the NDC as a party. The Man I know who equally holds the key to the victory of Tema West Constituency come 2020, The Game Changer. “
“I therefore ask all members of team RI and sympathizers of Rashid Isah to remain calm and focused on the main agenda of unity and oneness, therefore let massively endorse, support and Vote Wakefield Akuaku to be our next Parliamentary Candidate and Member of Parliament for Tema West Constituency,” he stated.
