As part of a bold and inclusive agenda to support cocoa-growing communities, President John Mahama has announced a Tertiary Education Scholarship Scheme tailored specifically for the children of cocoa farmers.
Announcing the new producer price of cocoa in Accra today, Finance Minister Dr Cassel Ato Forson revealed the government’s latest intervention aimed at improving the long-term welfare of cocoa-producing families.
“Ladies and Gentlemen, it is my pleasure to announce to cocoa farmers that President Mahama has introduced a Tertiary Education Scholarship Scheme for children of cocoa farmers,” Dr Forson stated.
He explained that COCOBOD would, during the course of the season, outline the framework for the new scholarship package. “Consequently, in the 2025/26 season, COCOBOD will develop modalities and implement the Cocoa Tertiary Scholarship Scheme for children of cocoa farmers, which will take effect from the 2026/27 academic year,” he said.
The introduction of the scheme has been widely welcomed as a timely initiative to bridge the educational gap in farming communities and offer deserving young Ghanaians access to quality higher education.
Stakeholders have praised the move as another clear signal of the Mahama administration’s commitment to improving the lives of cocoa farmers within their families and communities.
