The Vice presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Professor Opoku-Agyemang has questioned why the government has remained silent about a reported audit detailing findings of the road contracts awarded during the Mahama administration, which were cancelled by the Akufo-Addo administration.
When President Akufo-Addo took office in January 2017, his government halted all cocoa road construction projects initiated by his predecessor, John Mahama.
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration at the time justified the decision of the government by stating it was necessary to allow for a re-scoping of the projects and the implementation of open competitive bidding processes for new cocoa road contracts.
However, after nearly eight years, Professor Opoku-Agyemang has challenged the government to release its audit report on the “John Mahama road contracts.”
During a radio interview with Tamale-based Radio Tamale, as part of her tour of the Northern Region, she criticized the Akufo-Addo and Bawumia administration for what she deemed an unreasonable abandonment of such road projects.
She argued that the action of the government has exacerbated the deteriorating state of roads across the country, making transportation increasingly difficult for citizens.
Professor Opoku-Agyemang urged Ghanaians to vote against the NPP government and support Mr. John Mahama and the NDC to win the December 7 elections to resume work on the abandoned road projects.
