General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Fiifi Kwetey has signaled a tough approach to compliance and accountability within the party.
Addressing party officials and members at the headquarters, Kwetey focused on what he described as the need for order and fairness in the nomination process.
“Before filing nomination forms, any person appointed by government must resign at least six clear months ahead,” he said.
He explained that the party’s constitution draws a clear line between full-time public officers and those in non-executive roles.
“Chairpersons or members of boards are exempt because they are not full-time employees. But those who are full-time are affected,” he stated.
Kwetey emphasized that the policy is meant to prevent conflicts of interest and ensure a level playing field. He identified the key groups involved.
“Ministers, deputy ministers, managing directors, chief executives, and MMDCEs fall under this rule,” he said.
According to him, the guidelines are now available to the public, allowing aspirants to prepare in advance. “For the avoidance of doubt, the rules are out there. Everyone can see them,” he noted.
He also outlined clear deadlines. “Constituency aspirants must resign by April 2026. Regional by May. National by June,” Kwetey announced.
“These provisions will be enforced without deception. There is no room for pleading,” he cautioned.
