Ambassador Horace Ankrah has questioned the rationale behind the Akufo-Addo government’s decision to build a 600-bed hostel for Kayayie at Agbogbloshie market.
Speaking in an interview with Radiogoldlive.com, after a tour of New Market at Lapaz, a suburb of Accra, to acquaint himself with conditions at the market, he urged government to think hygiene at our market places rather than increasing congestion with misplaced ideas.
He explained that government should learn from the previous NDC administration and prioritize better conditions at our markets instead of congesting our markets.
“We clean market places at night to get them ready for the next day and to enhance hygiene at the same time but you do not bring night life to a day-market place with the provision of a hostel.”
“We need to make our market places spacious, very hygienic and very conducive to conduct business” he added.
“Think about the economics of Agbogbloshie market and that tells you that it needs, just as other markets, protection and regeneration to allow business to grow.”
“The conditions under which people work in our markets are what should be looked at by the current government but failure to do that I believe the next NDC government under Ex President Mahama will continue to provide our markets with better conditions to enable safe and better environment.”
Ambassador Ankrah assured market users that “an NDC government will ensure that all markets, including both Agbogbloshie and Lapaz New Market, has good running water, health post, day nursery, good public toilets, fire hydrants, paved lanes and a well lit area at night” he claimed.
He urged Ghanaians to vote the NDC back into power “because we have the track record of building better market places bearing
