President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has said he understands the duty he has to develop the country.
When his attention was drawn to the fact that some people have threatened to vote against the New Patriotic Party (NPP) because the government has not developed parts of the country as expected, President Akufo-Addo said on Kumasi-based Otec FM on Monday, October 17 that “If you decide to vote for the NDC in the general election, it is your choice and that is not my problem. No one will force you to vote for someone.
“No problem. I am saying people make those kinds of threats; me they don’t frighten me.”
“Of course, I understand the responsibility, we will deal with it, I will do the work” he stressed.
The President further said he takes full responsibility for the current economic difficulty but stated one cannot gloss over the external factors.
This is the first time the president has publicly owned up, as the country’s micro-economy continues to be challenged.
“I am the leader and I take responsibility,” President Akufo-Addo said.
The president was, however, optimistic, the economy will recover before he finishes his term “I hope the IMF support is concluded in the middle of November so we can feed it into our budget” he said.
He stressed, “my hope is to take Ghana out of IMF bemire when I finish my term.”
