U.S. President Donald Trump has issued a stark warning to Iran, saying the country could be “taken out in one night” if it fails to reach a deal with Washington before a self-imposed deadline.
Speaking at the White House, Trump said the United States has the military capability to launch a massive strike against Iran, adding that such action could come as soon as Tuesday night if negotiations collapse.
The ultimatum is tied to ongoing tensions over the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global oil shipping route. The U.S. has demanded that Iran reopen the passage and agree to conditions including curbing its nuclear programme.
Trump warned that failure to comply could trigger widespread attacks on Iranian infrastructure, including power plants and bridges, significantly escalating the conflict.
Iran, however, has pushed back against the demands, rejecting a temporary ceasefire proposal and calling instead for a broader agreement that includes sanctions relief and long-term security guarantees.
The threat has raised alarm internationally, with analysts warning of severe consequences for regional stability and the global economy. Oil markets have already shown volatility amid fears of disruption to supplies passing through the Gulf.
Despite the aggressive rhetoric, Trump said he hopes military action can be avoided if Iran agrees to terms before the deadline, describing the situation as a “critical period” for negotiations.
As the deadline approaches, the world watches closely, with concerns mounting that any miscalculation could lead to a broader Middle East conflict.
