President John Dramani Mahama has arrived in Lyon to co-chair the One Health Summit alongside French President Emmanuel Macron, as global leaders gather to deliberate on strengthening international health systems.
The President was met on arrival by a group of Ghanaian families resident in Lyon, who turned out in numbers on Easter Monday to welcome him.
“We are proud to receive our President here in Lyon. It means a lot to us as Ghanaians living abroad,” one member of the Ghanaian community said, expressing excitement at the rare opportunity to interact with their leader.
President Mahama is expected to play a key role in the summit, which brings together heads of state, health ministers, and global health experts to address pressing challenges in global health governance under the One Health framework.
Ghana’s participation at this level reflects the country’s growing leadership in shaping conversations around global health security and resilience.
Following the summit on Tuesday, President Mahama will proceed to Paris for a bilateral meeting with President Macron at the Élysée Palace.
“The bilateral talks will focus on deepening cooperation between Ghana and France, particularly in areas of health, investment, and development,” the official added.
