Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang today met with the hierarchy of the Ghana Prisons Service, led by the Director-General, Mrs. Patience Baffoe-Bonnie to deliberate on the challenges facing the Service and explore practical solutions.
The discussions centered on improving conditions within the country’s correctional facilities, strengthening rehabilitation programs and enhancing collaboration with other state agencies and the media. The Vice President underscored the importance of robust public education on prison reforms and reintegration, noting that the Service plays a crucial role in national development.
Professor Opoku-Agyemang commended the Ghana Prisons Service for its ongoing initiatives particularly its growing involvement in agricultural projects which she described as “promising and impactful.”
She assured the leadership of government’s strong commitment to addressing the needs of the Service. “As a responsible nation, it is our duty to ensure dignified conditions for inmates, to offer meaningful reforms and to provide the necessary support for their reintegration into society,” she emphasized.
The Vice President’s engagement reflects government’s broader agenda of strengthening correctional institutions and promoting a humane and reform-centered justice system.
