Former Deputy Minister for Finance Mona Quartey says President Akufo-Addo might have to return with Part 2 of his address.
According to Ms Mona Quartey this second address must focus on providing a detailed list of measures the government would take to address the difficulties that confront the country.
The former Deputy Finance Minister was speaking to Sena Nombo on the Gold Morning Conversation in response to President Akufo-Addo’s televised address to the nation in the wake of the economic crisis with which the nation was confronted.
President Akufo-Addo outlined 12 measures he said his government was taking to address cost of living crisis confronting Ghanaians in the wake of rising inflation, a weak cedi and rising lending rates.
Ms Mona Quartey however says the President’s address failed to tell Ghanaians how he will deal with Ghana’s debt which now stood at over ¢500billion.
The former Deputy Finance Minister said the President also failed to address concerns over Ghana’s widening fiscal deficit.
She said the President needs to do more than claim to be pushing through a 30% cut to discretionary expenditure.
Ms Quartey said government needed to focus on cutting administrative expenditure to acceptable levels.
