President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to the construction of the long-awaited Volivo Bridge, announcing that the project is back on track following the successful conclusion of discussions with Japanese partners.
Addressing residents during his visit to the Volta Region, the President disclosed that the previous contractor had withdrawn from the project after years of delays.
However, government has now completed negotiations with its Japanese partners and will soon begin the process of procuring a new contractor to execute the project.
According to President Mahama, the renewed efforts demonstrate government’s determination to deliver the critical infrastructure, which is expected to improve connectivity, facilitate trade, and enhance socio-economic development in the Volta Region and beyond.
“We have concluded discussions with our Japanese partners.
The previous contractor withdrew because of the prolonged delays, and we are now in the process of procuring a new contractor. We are confident that construction of the Volivo Bridge will commence before the end of this year,” President Mahama stated.
The Volivo Bridge project has long been regarded as a key infrastructure initiative expected to transform transportation across the Volta River, reduce travel time, and unlock economic opportunities for communities along the corridor.
The President’s assurance is expected to renew optimism among residents and stakeholders who have awaited the commencement of the project for several years.
Government maintains that work will begin before the close of the year, marking a significant milestone in its broader infrastructure development agenda.
