The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission has announced an 8.01% in water tariffs.
Executive Secretary for the Commission Mami Dufie Ofori who announced this at a press conference earlier today said the review will take effect from July 1.
The PURC promised to make an announcement on water tariffs in an earlier statement issued to announce new electricity tariffs and today’s press conference provided a perfect opportunity to do that.

It would be recalled that the PURC on September 6, 2018 issued a regulatory order against the Ghana Water Company Limited over the water provision crisis in Accra and Tema demanding the suspension of the announced closure of the Kpong Water works at the time.
Mami Dufie Ofori in her statement said the decision to approve the increase is due to the GWCL’s compliance with that order.
“Due to the compliance by Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) to the Commission’s Regulatory Order Number GWCL 012018 dated September 06, 2018, the Commission has restored water tariffs to the July 15, 2018rates which is the basis of the increase,” she stated.
The PURC Executive Secretary indicated that the PURC considered Electricity cost, cost of chemicals and Ghana Cedi-US Dollar Exchange Rate in arriving at the increase.
