“Often when we are counseling our children, we try to make it general but among the children you now the one who is a bad. Even though you Counsel all of us and say politicians, all of you know who is the one who is the bad child among your children and from time to time you must call them out and let them know that you are talking to them.”
That is the response of the Leader and Flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress’ former President John Mahama to allegations that his party and the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) were equally responsible for fomenting violence in Ghana’s electoral process.
The NDC Leader is unhappy with what he sees as an attempt to blame the opposition party for acts that have been perpetrated by the governing NPP.
Former President Mahama has been touring parts of the Volta region as part of moves to get the backing of voters for the NDC’s bid to wrestle back power from the NPP.
His presence has been greeted with pleas from the chiefs for the NDC to eschew violence after condemning the violent acts that threatened to mar the just ended voters’ registration exercise.

Speaking to the Chiefs and people of the Akatsi South Constituency in Akatsi, the former President urged traditional leaders to name the perpetrators of these violent acts and condemn their acts.
“We know who use vigilantes in this country; we know who has the invincible forces and the delta forces and the Bolga Bulldogs and all of them. We know who caused violence in Ayawaso West Wuogon; shot and injured people, we know those people.”
“We take the advice as political parties but I think the traditional rulers from time to time should call out that particular bad child who is creating the havoc so that child know he is one you are talking to,” he stated.
