President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has congratulated Samuel Takyi for winning Ghana’s first medal since 1992 at the ongoing Tokyo Olympics.
“Big congratulations to Samuel Takyi from all of us at home, for hoisting high the flag of Ghana at the Tokyo Olympics, and for winning a bronze medal, Ghana’s first Olympic medal in 29 years. Well done,” President Akufo-Addo posted on his Facebook time timeline.
Takyi won bronze in boxing.
The 20-year-old Takyi defied all the odds at his debut Olympics, proving that there’s much more to come from this talented fighter.
He joins the pantheon of Ghanaian Olympic boxing greats Clement Quartey, a light welterweight who won silver in Rome in 1960, Eddie Blay a bronze light-welterweight medalist from Tokyo in 1964, and Prince Amartey who made history in Munch 1972.
