A nursing officer in charge of the dialysis unit at the 37 Military Hospital, Lieutenant Colonel Agnes Awudi has called on uniformed personnel and civilians to take proactive measures to guard against kidney injuries.
Speaking at a program organized by the dialysis unit of the 37 military hospital to commemorate World Kidney Day, Lt. Col. Awudi shed light on the growing global concern of kidney disease, stressing that early detection was key in preventing its progression.
This year’s theme, “Are Your Kidneys Okay? Detect Early, Protect Your Kidney Health,” aimed to enhance awareness regarding the prevention and early detection of kidney diseases among military personnel and the general public.
Lt. Col. Awudi pointed out that World Kidney Day serves as an essential platform for disseminating vital information on the prevention and treatment options available for kidney diseases.
“Regular screening of kidney function is essential to detect any deviations at an early stage, thereby reducing the burden of kidney diseases on families and society as a whole,” she stated.
As part of the celebration, the hospital organized free basic health screenings and a voluntary blood donation exercise for uniformed officers of the Ghana Armed Forces stationed at Burma Camp, as well as civilians from the surrounding community.
The initiative aimed not only to promote kidney health but also to promote a culture of community responsibility through voluntary blood donation.
The program was attended by some senior medical officers from the dialysis unit, nursing students, Ghana Armed Forces personnel, and some civilians.
The hospital reiterated its commitment to promoting health awareness and providing essential services to the men and women serving the country, ensuring they remain informed and proactive about their health.
World Kidney Day is a global awareness campaign focused on raising awareness about the significance of kidney health and reducing the frequency and impact of kidney disease and its associated health problems worldwide.
