The Volta Regional House of Chiefs has expressed grave concern over the mass suffering and economic hardship of residents and the lack of jobs for the youth in the region.
The chiefs stated that the situation has led to a high level of poverty and desperation among the people, which has also contributed to a rise in crime.
Vice President of Volta Regional House of Chiefs, Togbe Patamia Dzekle VII said this at a meeting with former president John Dramani Mahama as part of his ‘Building Ghana’ tour of the Volta Region.
Togbe Patamia Dzekle who is also the paramount chief of Battor Traditional Area indicated that the youth in the region are in dire need of employment opportunities to improve their livelihoods.
“The masses are suffering; it’s something that we have to look at. Let the laws work to put a stop to the looting” Togbe Patamia Dzekle complained to the NDC 2024 Flagbearer.
He called on Mr. Mahama to prioritize job creation in the region to enable the youth to take charge of their lives and contribute to the development of the region if he wins the next elections.
The chiefs also decried the poor state of the region’s road network, which they said has hampered economic activities and made transportation difficult.
In response, John Mahama promised to create jobs opportunities for the youths in the region through the implementation of his 24 hour economy policy if he is re-elected as president of Ghana.
Mr. Mahama who is Flagbearer and Leader of the opposition National Democratic Congress, is currently on a building Ghana tour aimed at interfacing with party executives, supporters, and Ghanaians in general on critical issues affecting the country.
The tour also provides an opportunity for Mr. Mahama to interact and listen to the concerns and aspirations of the people.
