[21:45, 01/10/2024] Patrick R. Gold: “Mahama Affirms Opposition to Same-Sex Marriages, LGBTQ+”

John Dramani Mahama, the leader and flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has reaffirmed his stance against same-sex marriages and LGBTQ+ activities in Ghana, citing his Christian faith as the basis for his opposition.

Addressing clergy in Accra, Mahama expressed concerns about the Akufo Addo/Bawumia administration’s handling of the “Promotion of Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Act,” which he believes sets a dangerous precedent for governance.

Mahama emphasized that his faith, as a proud member of the Assemblies of God Church, does not permit same-sex marriages or relationships, nor does it endorse human-animal relations or gender changes

He assured that under his government, LGBTQ+ activities would not be promoted in schools and communities.

This stance is consistent with Mahama’s previous statements on the matter. It’s worth noting that Mahama has also proposed other initiatives, such as introducing a 24-hour economy, to boost Ghana’s economic growth and job creation.

However, his stance on LGBTQ+ issues has been clear and unwavering, grounded in his Christian faith.

[22:00, 01/10/2024] Patrick R. Gold: Mahama Unveils Family-Friendly Policies: 4-Month Maternity Leave, 1-Week Paternity Leave.

John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has made a significant pledge to support new parents in Ghana.

He promises to extend maternity leave by an additional month, bringing it to a total of four months, and introduce a week-long paternity leave policy if he wins the 2024 general elections.

Key Proposals:

  • Extended Maternity Leave: Increase maternity leave from three months to four months to allow mothers to monitor their child’s development before returning to work.
  • Paternity Leave: Introduce a week-long paternity leave for fathers to assist mothers and bond with their newborns during the critical post-birth period.
  • Eligibility: Paternity leave would be limited to legally married men who can provide proof of marriage.

This move aims to provide parental support during the early months of a child’s life, recognizing the importance of both parents playing an active role in childcare. By extending maternity leave and introducing paternity leave, Mahama hopes to promote a better work-life balance and support families during a crucial period.
