John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has reaffirmed his commitment to empowering women in Ghana.
He plans to increase women’s representation in Parliament, district assemblies, and leadership roles across all sectors, recognizing that gender equality is crucial for Ghana’s progress.
Key Initiatives:
- Full Implementation of the Affirmative Action Act 2024: Ensuring women hold at least 30% of political appointments to boost female participation in politics and governance.
- Property Rights of Spouses Bill: Protecting women’s property rights within marriage, ensuring equality in asset distribution.
- Domestic Workers Bill: Safeguarding vulnerable domestic workers, particularly women, from exploitation and abuse.
Mahama emphasized that women’s inclusion in governance is vital for national development and cannot be discounted ². His administration prioritized strategic economic initiatives to enhance the quality of life for Ghanaians, including efforts to alleviate power shortages and boost job creation through agricultural expansion.
By implementing these policies, Mahama aims to create a more inclusive and equitable society, where women have equal opportunities to participate and contribute to Ghana’s growth.
