The Dome-Kwabenya Chapter of the National Democratic Congress, NDC, has described as palpable falsehood information put out by President Akufo-Addo that the newly commissioned 100 bed Ga East Municipal Hospital at Kwabenya formed part of the Ghana Hospital Project initiated in 2008.

President Akufo-Addo on November 6, 2019, commissioned the 100 bed Ga East Municipal Hospital, one of former President Mahama’s legacies.
At a press conference at Kwabena a suburb of Accra to set the records straight, the former Ga East Municipal Chief Executive, John Kwao Sackey, noted that as has become the norm of the President not wanting to give credit to former President Mahama’s administration he lied by saying the hospital formed part of the Ghana Hospital Projects.

Mr. Sackey added that due to the small size of the land, the project was relocated to the Ga East Municipal Youth in Afforestation Teak Plantation in Kwabenya, which the Assembly developed in cooperation with the Ghana Atomic Energy Commission to prevent encroachment on the Commission’s land.

He pointed out that the funds for all the nine hospital projects were secured by former President John Dramani Mahama for the hospital projects including; 1 Military Hospital in Ashanti Region, 2 Regional Hospitals and 6 District Hospitals of which Dome-Kwabenya benefited.

He pointed out that the funds for all the nine hospital projects were secured by former President John Dramani Mahama for the hospital projects including; 1 Military Hospital in Ashanti Region, 2 Regional Hospitals and 6 District Hospitals of which Dome-Kwabenya benefited.

The former MCE explained that former President John Mahama in June 22 2016, as part of his “Accounting To The People” tour of the Greater Accra Region inspected the progress of work of the hundred (100) bed hospital at Kwabenya.

He further revealed that the contract was signed in 2014 and was to be completed in 36 months, thus in 2017 by a Chinese contractor.

Mr. Sackey however stated President Akufo-Addo upon assumption of office decided to suspend all developmental projects started by former John Mahama across the country including that 100 bed hospital in the area.

In setting the records straight he opined the governing NPP led by Nana Addo intentionally delayed the project for nine months and had it completed after the contractor was asked to go back to site.

Touching on the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), the former Ga East MCE debunked President Akufo-Addo’s allegation that the NDC collapsed the scheme, adding that it took the NDC administrations to improve scheme better than it was of.

The press conference explained that from 2004 to 2008, the cumulative figure of the National Health Insurance membership was approximately 5.8 which even include those who are dead.

“However, from 2009 to 2016 the active membership of about 11 million without those are dead was recorded, and about 22 million over registered with the scheme as added including those who have died or have renewed their membership and are current to access healthcare with their membership card”. Mr. Sackey stated.

He also explains that “active membership means those who have renewed their membership alongside newly registered members all in good standing and can receive healthcare with their insurance cards”.

To this end, Mr. Sackey described the claim by President Akufo-Addo as unfortunate when he (Sackey) refuted the President assertion that the NDC collapsed the NHIS; how can a scheme which increased in membership who are receiving healthcare said to be have collapsed.

The fomer Honourable Ga East MCE, Mr. Sackey enumerated some of the projects the Municipality benefited under him during Ex-President Mahama’s administration.

They included the Dome Market, Haatso Market, Abokobi Market and the Taifa Burkina market. The rest are; the E-block Senior High School at Kwabenya, Basic School Buildings, Asphalt roads at St. John’s -Dome, Haatso -Agbogba, Abokobi maternity block and Abokobi by-pass.

Others including; Abokobi Sessimi road, Abokobi Police Station, Provision of furniture to basic schools and the Construction of the water reservoir at Boi that supplies water to the people of Ashongman estates and its environs.
