A solemn burial ceremony will be held today, August 9, for two Muslim victims of the August 6 military helicopter crash, in line with Islamic tradition.
Former Minister for Environment, Dr. Ibrahim Mohammed Murtala, and former Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator, Alhaji Muniru Limuna Mohammed, will be laid to rest following Janazah prayers scheduled for 2:00 p.m. at the Forecourt of the State House in Accra. The burial will take place at 2:30 p.m. at the Military Cemetery in Accra.
The Presidency confirmed the arrangements, noting that the rites are expected to draw a host of high-profile dignitaries, including President John Mahama, the Vice President, the Speaker of Parliament, and the National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Religious leaders such as the National Chief Imam and the leader of the Ambariya Sunni Group, as well as family members, traditional authorities, and colleagues of the deceased, will also be in attendance.
Dr. Murtala and Alhaji Muniru were among eight people who perished when a Ghana Air Force helicopter crashed in the Adansi-Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region. The national tragedy has plunged the country into mourning, with tributes pouring in from across the political and social spectrum.
While today’s ceremony honours the two Muslim victims, a larger inter-denominational state funeral for all eight victims is scheduled for Friday, August 15, 2025, at the Black Star Square. The event will provide the nation with a final opportunity to pay its respects to those who lost their lives in service to Ghana.
