The Municipal Chief Executive for Weija-Gbawe Municipal Assembly, Hon. Felix Odartey Lamptey, has led members of the Municipal Coordinating Council to inspect a rubber factory that was ravaged by fire last week, causing extensive damage to production units and equipment.
Speaking during the inspection, Hon. Lamptey expressed sympathy to the management and workers, describing the incident as a significant setback for local industry.
“This is a very unfortunate incident for the company and for all who depend on it,” he said. “We are thankful that no lives were lost, and the Assembly will continue to engage management as they work toward recovery.”
The MCE emphasized the importance of safety protocols across all industrial facilities in the municipality.
“We will continue to work with businesses to strengthen fire safety and prevent such disasters,” he added.
The District Fire Service Officer for the municipality, Isaac Saah, who briefed the MCE during the visit, confirmed that investigations were ongoing.
“Our team is still working on the assessment,” he said. “The official report on the fire outbreak will be made public once it is ready.”
Management of the factory expressed appreciation for the visit and assured the authorities of their cooperation as the investigation continues.
The inspection forms part of efforts by the Assembly to monitor safety compliance and support businesses affected by emergencies within the municipality.
