The Asante Palace is set to formally brief the Presidency today, December 16, on the state of the Bawku peace process, with a comprehensive account of mediation efforts submitted to President John Dramani Mahama.
The mediation initiative, launched earlier this year at the instance of the President, was designed to bring a lasting resolution to the protracted chieftaincy dispute that has fuelled instability in the Bawku Municipality for decades.
Engagements began in April 2025, with a series of closed-door meetings held separately with key actors from the opposing sides, aimed at de-escalating hostilities and rebuilding trust as a foundation for broader dialogue.
Although the process suffered a temporary lull, talks were revived in May and have since contributed to a noticeable reduction in tensions, restoring a measure of calm to an area long associated with recurrent violence.
Sources indicate that the report to the President will detail gains made so far, flag persistent bottlenecks, and propose practical steps to shape the next phase of state-led action towards durable peace.
In the meantime, the Ghana Armed Forces have assured the public that security deployments in the area have been strengthened to preserve order and support the ongoing mediation process.
