The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has acknowledged pockets of unplanned power outages affecting parts of the country, attributing the situation to challenges within its distribution network.
According to ECG, the outages are largely caused by obsolete infrastructure, weakened cables, and overloaded transformers.
To address the problem, the Government, in collaboration with ECG, has commenced the Transformer Upgrade and Replacement Programme (TURP).
The initiative is being implemented in phases nationwide, with more than 2,500 transformers expected to be installed across ECG’s operational areas to boost capacity and improve reliability.
ECG noted that as the upgrade works progress, there will be scheduled (planned) outages, and the public will be duly informed ahead of time.
“We are actively working to resolve these challenges as quickly as possible and improve service delivery,” the company stated.
The power distributor apologized for the inconvenience caused and appealed to customers for patience and understanding.
Customers experiencing unplanned outages are encouraged to contact ECG via its hotline: 0302 611 611, for prompt assistance.
ECG reaffirmed its commitment to delivering reliable and consistent power supply to all Ghanaians.
