The government has announced progress in restoring power supply following the recent fire outbreak at the Akosombo Hydroelectric Power Station, with one of the affected generation units now back in operation.
In an update shared on Facebook, Energy and Green Transition Minister John Abdulai Jinapor confirmed that the third unit at the facility was successfully brought back online earlier in the day.
According to the Minister, the restoration of the unit is expected to boost power generation and improve supply reliability across the country, particularly in areas affected by outages following the incident.
“This milestone will improve power generation and enhance supply reliability. It also reflects our continued commitment to maintaining a resilient power system,” he stated.
Mr. Jinapor further disclosed that engineers are actively working to restore the fourth unit, as part of ongoing efforts to fully stabilise operations at the plant.
The fire incident at the Akosombo substation disrupted electricity supply in several parts of the country, prompting urgent response measures by authorities and technical teams.
The Minister noted that the progress made so far demonstrates government’s determination to emerge stronger from the setback, with renewed focus on ensuring stability and reliability in electricity supply.
He assured the public that all necessary steps are being taken to expedite full restoration while strengthening the resilience of the national power infrastructure.
