The fourth generating unit at the Akosombo Dam has been successfully brought back into operation, marking a significant milestone for Ghana’s energy sector.
According to Energy and Green Transition Minister, John Abdulai Jinapor, the unit resumed operations at 9:09 p.m., strengthening the country’s electricity generation capacity. The development is expected to improve power reliability nationwide, particularly at a time when consistent energy supply remains critical for households and industry.
Energy sector observers say the restoration reflects the technical expertise and commitment of engineers and stakeholders involved in maintaining the facility. The Akosombo Dam, operated by the Volta River Authority, is one of Ghana’s most important sources of hydroelectric power.
The return of the fourth unit is seen as a positive step toward stabilizing the national grid and supporting economic activity. Officials have not yet disclosed whether additional upgrades or maintenance works are planned for other units at the facility.
The Akosombo Dam has long played a central role in Ghana’s energy infrastructure, and the successful reactivation of the unit underscores ongoing efforts to ensure sustainable and reliable power generation.
