World Unity and Peace International (WUPI), a non-governmental organization committed to fostering global harmony, human dignity, and social justice, officially inaugurated its operations on Monday in Accra. The launch coincided with the unveiling of the WUPI Charter, a foundational document outlining the organization’s core principles, operational framework, and long-term global vision.
Addressing attendees, the Chief of the Ekumfi-Eyisem Traditional Area, Nana Impraim VIII, warned against the growing prevalence of hate speech and intolerance, highlighting them as key drivers of political and social unrest across Africa and beyond.
He emphasized that lasting national development relies on four fundamental pillars: truth, love, freedom, and justice. He urged citizens to practice mutual tolerance regardless of political or religious differences.
In his remarks, WUPI Founder and President Okronkronyi Nyame Somafo Yawoh expressed concern over the rise of disrespectful commentary targeting public officials and elders on social media. He cautioned young people against engaging in online behavior that undermines Ghanaian cultural values and threatens social cohesion.
Adding a journalistic perspective, Dr. Akwesi Agyeman, Editor at Multimedia Group and lecturer at the University of Media, Arts and Communication, urged media professionals to actively promote national stability.
He advised journalists to resist political pressures that could stir conflict, reminding media practitioners that their societal role extends beyond basic reporting to driving constructive social transformation.
Osagyefo Oseadeeyo Dr. Nana Freduah Agyemang Budu II, Paramount Chief of the Dormaa Traditional Area and chairman of the event, commended the initiative and noted that sustained socio-economic progress is impossible without peace. He called on stakeholders nationwide to support the organization’s vision ahead of its inaugural WUPI Summit scheduled for September.
