The Western Regional Police Command has arrested five suspects in connection with the robbery and murder of a gold buyer at Agona Fie near Agona Nkwanta, marking a major breakthrough in investigations into the violent crime.
The victim, 40-year-old Seth Kobina, was fatally shot on the evening of August 20, 2026, when armed men attacked his gold buying shop. He sustained a gunshot wound to the chest and was rushed to the Agona Nkwanta Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Police investigations, supported by intelligence gathering and the review of CCTV footage, quickly identified 29-year-old Emmanuel Amponsah, popularly known as “Vandam,” as the alleged leader of the robbery gang.
Acting on the intelligence, police arrested Amponsah at a guest house in Agona Nkwanta on August 21. A search conducted on him led to the recovery of a locally manufactured pistol and two live BB cartridges. He later took ill and was rushed to the Effia Nkwanta Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The Police Command subsequently intensified investigations, leading to the arrest of three additional suspects within the Agona Nkwanta area. They are Christopher Seyiri, also known as “Cross and Die,” 47; Bashiru Ibrahim, 20; and Thomas Odoom, alias “Wale,” 30.
A fifth suspect, Isaac Quayeson, popularly known as “Last Burial,” was later arrested at Denkyira Kwaboso in the Western North Region. A search of his residence led to the retrieval of a locally manufactured pistol, three live BB cartridges, a metal bar, and two cutlasses.
According to police, investigations have uncovered critical evidence linking the suspects to the robbery. During interrogation, Quayeson allegedly identified Amponsah as the individual who shot and killed the deceased and also identified Odoom as one of the suspects captured in CCTV footage obtained by investigators.
The Western Regional Police Command said the suspects are assisting with ongoing investigations, while efforts are underway to track down and arrest other accomplices believed to be connected to the robbery and murder.
The latest arrests underscore the Police Service’s continued commitment to combating violent crime and ensuring that perpetrators are brought to justice through intelligence-driven investigations and swift operational responses.
