Lawyer and Senior Vice President of policy think tank IMANI Africa Kofi Bentil has asked communicators of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) extolling the virtues of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to apologize to Ghanaians for demonizing the same institution about a month ago.
He pointed out that their praise for the IMF cannot be taken seriously or believed due to their attitude towards the IMF prior to the U-turn by the President that an IMF program is sought.
For him, they should start by apologizing for their initial demonization of the IMF.
“If you shouted down Others and said IMF was terrible a month ago, you can’t expect serious people to believe you when you say today that IMF is the greatest solution. Start by apologizing and move on. Your earlier works are in your way!!” He wrote.
Key officials of the Government NPP such as the Minister of Finance Ken Ofori-Atta and others insisted that going to the IMF was a bad idea. Now though the Information Minister backed by some other communicators are full of praise for the IMF as the Government seeks help to deal with its balance of payment challenges.
