Ghana’s president, Nana Akuffo Addo has made a promise to provide 5,000 motorbikes to Ghana Police Service.
The president who is currently in his second term of office, made the new promise after handing over 1,500 motorbikes to the Ghana Police Service.
The gesture is aimed at enhancing the mandate of the Police to fight crime especially within communities.
Speaking in Accra Monday at a brief ceremony to handover the motorbikes to the police service, Nana Akuffo Addo promised to increase the 1,500 motorbikes to 5,000 by end of the next year 2023.
‘’I assure the police administration that this is just the beginning, more and more motorbikes will come soon, government will increase the number of motorbikes to 5,000 by the end of the next year’’.
Interior minister, Ambrose Dery who also spoke at the ceremony said the move was a fulfillment of the ruling party NPP’s 2016 campaign promises to retool the Ghana police service.
On his part, the inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare pledged to make the country the safest place for both citizens and foreigners.
He indicated that the motorbikes will be a major boost to the fight against crime.
He however asked for more of such gestures.
