Franklin Cudjoe, the Founding President and Chief Executive Officer of IMANI Centre for Policy and Education, has strongly advocated for the removal of Attorney General Godfred Dame from office. This demand comes in the wake of a controversial audio recording released by the leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

The audio in question allegedly captures Dame discussing a plan to manipulate testimony in a high-profile financial crime case. The case involves former Deputy Finance Minister and current Minority Leader, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, and businessman Richard Jakpa, who are both accused of causing a substantial financial loss of €2.37 million to the state.

According to reports, the leaked audio appears to feature Dame advising Jakpa to intentionally miss a court session to coincide with the Attorney General’s travel plans. This revelation has raised serious concerns about the integrity and impartiality of the legal proceedings.

In a post on the social media platform X, Franklin Cudjoe expressed deep regret for his previous defense of the Attorney General. He stated, “And I am sorry. I was wrong about AG’s inability to do what he has been accused of. Nipa yɛ cobra. He must go.” Cudjoe’s use of the phrase “Nipa yɛ cobra” suggests that he believes the Attorney General has acted in a deceptive and untrustworthy manner.

Cudjoe further emphasized his stance, stating, “I was right about the AG. Ato Forson’s trial was…” Although the full context of his statement is not provided, it is clear that Cudjoe had previously expressed concerns about the Attorney General’s conduct in relation to the Ato Forson case.

The release of this controversial audio recording has sparked a heated debate about the fairness and integrity of the legal system in Ghana. Many are questioning whether the Attorney General’s alleged actions constitute an abuse of power and a violation of due process.

As the Founding President and CEO of IMANI, a respected think tank known for its advocacy of good governance and transparency, Franklin Cudjoe’s call for the Attorney General’s resignation carries significant weight. His demand reflects the growing public sentiment that the allegations against Dame are serious enough to warrant his removal from office.

The implications of this controversy extend beyond the specific case involving Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson and Richard Jakpa. It raises broader questions about the independence and impartiality of the judiciary, as well as the need for accountability and transparency in the legal system.

As the nation awaits further developments in this unfolding scandal, the eyes of the public remain firmly fixed on the Attorney General’s office. The future of Godfred Dame’s tenure as Attorney General hangs in the balance, as calls for his resignation continue to mount in light of the damaging audio leak.
