The Ministry of Communications, Digital Technology and Innovations has dismissed allegations circulating on social media that the sector Minister, Samuel Nartey George, has misused or squandered public funds.
In a statement issued on Monday, May 18, 2026, the Ministry explained that the document being shared online as evidence of financial misconduct was only a preliminary request for budget approval and did not indicate that any money had been spent.
According to the Ministry’s Public Relations Directorate, the document formed part of a broader submission to the Ministry of Finance seeking “Commitment Authorisation” for planned projects, programmes, and operational activities scheduled for the 2026 fiscal year.
The Ministry stressed that all the proposed activities fall within approved budget allocations that were duly sanctioned by Parliament and are therefore lawful.
Clarifying further, the Ministry noted that the Ministry of Finance has not yet approved the request, meaning no funds have been released, disbursed, or utilized in connection with the items mentioned in the circulating document.
It therefore described the claims on social media as misleading, inaccurate, and lacking proper context, urging the public to disregard the reports.
The Ministry also reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, accountability, and compliance with Ghana’s public financial management regulations.
