The Progressive People’s Party believes the failure of government to feed and shelter the vulnerable in the two cities of Accra and Kumasi beyond three weeks should serve as a reality check to the economic Management team of the current government.
Government had projected to feed some 400,000 persons during the period of the partial lock down but lifted the lock down after three weeks because it felt the same people would not be able to fend for themselves without working.
This is despite the fact that government had supposedly budgeted for the intervention. Concerns have also been raised about the failure of government to shelter the vulnerable during the partial lock down leading to several of them roaming the streets.
The PPP believes this is a cause for worry.
This was contained in the May Day message of the party issued by its 1st National Vice Chairman William Dorworkpor.
The PPP is also calling on government to work-out a post COVID-19 restart plan that would ensure galloping economic growth at double digits by leveraging on innovation, technology and a truly enabling environment which prioritizes the Ghanaian entrepreneur and worker.
According to the PPP the plan is necessary to resuscitate the Ghanaian economy which is already on its knees due to tumbling crude prices and seizure of trade following the lock down of several developed economies.
Most developed countries have locked down and restricted movement in order to curtail the spread of COVID-19 grinding economic activities to a halt.
The PPP believes the development spells danger for emerging economies like Ghana and the Ghanaian government needs to prepare.
