Lecturers from other Universities on 9 October 2024 joined their counterparts from the University of Ghana to intensify the street campaign for the National Democratic Congress.
The campaign which was initiated by UG lecturers to canvas for votes on the major streets of the capital to get John Mahama elected as president and help NDC candidates secure majority seats in the Greater Accra region
The lecturers include those from the University of Ghana, Legon, Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), and the University of Professional Studies (UPSA), among others.
The lecturers who were joined by students from various University campuses were seen publicly campaigning at Atomic Junction traffic on Tuesday the 8th of October 2024.
The campaigners distributed fliers containing pieces of information about John Mahama and NDC to drivers, passengers, motorists, and commuters at the Atomic junction near Madina in a bid to convince them to vote for John Mahama as president.
Some passengers and motorists cheered them on, while others joined them in singing and dancing and demonstrating the change sign.
Speaking to the media, a Political Scientist at the University of Ghana, Professor Michael Kpessa Whyte said Ghanaians were looking for change because the NPP government has performed abysmally.
“Today, you can see that the number of lecturers has increased. More will be joining us as we move on. You can also see some students who decided to join the campaign, They all want John Mahama to come and reset our country. So, We will continue to hit the streets with our message to Ghanaians to vote for John Mahama to implement his vision and policies for Ghana,” he stated.
The Political Science Professor also revealed that they had to change the original venue for the day’s campaign from Fiesta Royal hotel traffic lights at Dzorwulu to Atomic junction because some sympathizers of New Patriotic Party NPP, showed up at the same venue to create confusion.
He said in a bid to avoid a clash, they changed their location to the atomic junction,
On her part, Head of Physics Department of the University of Ghana Professor Nana Ama Klutse, took a swipe at the government on the its failed fight against illegal mining known as Galamsey
According to her, Galamsey operations over the years have destroyed most of Ghana’s arable lands, as well as polluted many water bodies leading to water shortages in parts of the country.
Prof Brown Klutse stresses the need to vote for change to save the country from the NPP government.
“We have to vote them out. They have failed everywhere and now they are destroying our water.
