A victim of the military brutality in Garu has been narrating the harrowing incident to host of the Gold Morning Conversation Sena Nombo.
Enock Anaba who is a Broadcast Journalist with Quality FM told the brutality lasted for 2 hours during which period they were beaten with all kinds of ropes, cables and wires, stomped on and coerced to perform all kinds of drills.
He said on one occasion, a military man kept hitting his head with the butt of the gun because according to the soldier he, Enock was not bleeding.
Enock was speaking to Radio Gold after the Ministry of National Security admitted to deploying the Military Men on the ground.
According to the National Security Minister Kan Dapaah, the brutal assault on the residents on 28 october 2023 was part of a “joint operation in Garu to seize weapons used by the perpetrators of the attack on the National Security personnel.”
He said the “operation” was in a response to an alleged incident that involved residents and National Security personnel on 24 October 2023.
However, Enock Anaba said the actions of the military were arbitrary.
Mr. Anaba said the officers pounced on him immediately after he queried “which guns” when the soldiers asked him “where are the guns”.
He said his two brothers also suffered the same fate and took their phones, money, jewelry and any valuable possession they carried.
Enock Anaba mentioned that even the six-year-old boy of an Assembly member was a victim of the abuse after he told the soldiers his father was not around
Enock Anaba stated “it’s almost becoming a norm of the military service, and we can’t understand their operating procedures. We rely on them for security, but this is how they handle us.”
