The Government of Ghana has provided humanitarian aid to three nations currently experiencing severe humanitarian crises.
The support, according to President John Dramani Mahama, reflects Ghana’s deep sense of solidarity, respect, and fraternity towards nations in distress.
The beneficiary countries Jamaica, Cuba, and Sudan have been affected by separate but significant crises.
Jamaica and Cuba were recently hit by Hurricane Melissa, a category-five storm that caused widespread devastation across the Caribbean in October.
Sudan, on the other hand, continues to grapple with the heavy toll on refugee and relief agencies responding to the prolonged conflict and humanitarian emergency within the country.
The relief items, valued at over GH₵10 million, include:
2,400 bags of Ghana rice
540 bags of sugar
377 boxes of medication
500 mattresses and 500 pillows
100 cartons of gari mix
50,000 pieces of T-shirts
Three 20-foot containers of assorted Ghana-made chocolate products
20 pieces each of 500-litre water tanks and hand-wash stations
10 emergency portable toilets
Assorted clothing materials
President Mahama described the donation as symbolic of Ghana’s commitment to global friendship and humanitarian responsibility.
“This gesture is modest but heartfelt. It signifies our enduring bond and goodwill towards nations facing hardship.
Sudan is actually becoming the forgotten wall because of Ukraine and Gaza, it appears the world’s attention has shifted elsewhere,” the President noted.
Distribution of the items will be done as follows: 50% to Jamaica, 30% to Cuba, and 20% to international humanitarian agencies operating in Sudan.
The items were received on behalf of the three nations by the High Commissioner of Jamaica to Ghana, Mr. Lincoln George Downer, who expressed profound appreciation for Ghana’s support.
The donations were made possible through contributions from Ghanaian and international businesses and institutions, including: Latex Foam, Ash Form, MTN, Farm Masters Global, Twellium Company, Dignity DTRR Apparel, Pharmanova Ghana, Atlantic Lifesciences Ltd, Mancwa Commodities Ltd, Duraplast Ltd, Terraprime Group Ghana Ltd, Mid Atlantic Group, COCOBOD, Cocoa Processing Company, and businessman Mr. Ibrahim Mahama.
President Mahama reaffirmed Ghana’s readiness to stand with partner nations in moments of need, highlighting the nation’s longstanding leadership role in humanitarian cooperation within the global community.
