The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), Hon. Maame Efua Houadjeto, has officially launched the 2024 Ghana Tourism Report, highlighting remarkable progress made in the sector despite global and regional economic pressures.
Speaking at the launch event in Accra, Madam Houadjeto described the report as a testament to Ghana’s resilience and innovation in promoting tourism as a tool for economic transformation, national branding, and social cohesion.
“It is with great pleasure that I welcome you all to the Press Launch of the 2024 Ghana Tourism Report, a publication that not only reflects the progress of our industry over the past year but also reinforces our shared commitment to building a resilient, inclusive, and competitive tourism sector,” she said.
According to the CEO, Ghana’s tourism sector maintained a strong upward trajectory in 2024, with significant growth in international arrivals and a boost in domestic tourism.
“We recorded a significant increase in international arrivals, saw notable growth in domestic tourism, and continued to diversify our product offerings,” she added.
She attributed these gains to targeted marketing campaigns, enhanced digital platforms, and initiatives such as the “See Ghana, Eat Ghana, Wear Ghana, Feel Ghana” campaign, the Black Star Experience, and December in GH, which have positioned Ghana as the “Gateway to Africa.”
“These initiatives have not only drawn global attention but have also reaffirmed Ghana’s place as a leading destination on the continent,” she stated.
Hon. Houadjeto emphasized the Authority’s efforts in strengthening partnerships with the private sector, enhancing regulatory compliance, and prioritizing the training and certification of tourism professionals.
“We remain committed to upskilling our workforce to meet international standards. Quality service delivery is key to ensuring memorable visitor experiences,” she noted.
The report also showcases the economic impact of flagship events such as PANAFEST Emancipation, Kwahu Paragliding Festival, and Detty December, which together contributed to regional development and job creation across the country.
The GTA CEO highlighted the growing focus on sustainable tourism, including eco-tourism, community-based experiences, and climate-conscious destination management.
“Our goal is not only to attract visitors but to ensure that tourism development benefits local communities and protects our natural and cultural heritage for generations to come,” she stressed.
Calling for continued collaboration, Hon. Houadjeto invited stakeholders from across the public, private, and civil society spectrum to support the next phase of Ghana’s tourism growth.
“Let us work together to unlock new markets, strengthen infrastructure, and leverage digital innovation to deliver seamless experiences,” she urged.
She also expressed appreciation to the media and stakeholders for their continued support in promoting Ghana’s tourism narrative.
“Your support in telling the Ghana story, accurately and consistently, cannot be overstated. We thank you for being the bridge between our work and the world.”
In closing, the CEO praised the dedication of the Ghana Tourism Authority team and regional offices, describing the publication of the 2024 report as a significant milestone.
“Let us continue to build on this momentum. Together, we will make Ghana not only a destination of choice but a model for African tourism,” she concluded.
