The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has committed GH¢8.4 million towards the rehabilitation of three major water supply systems in the Western and Central Regions, in a move aimed at restoring potable water to thousands of residents and reinforcing responsible mining practices.
The agreement, signed with Ghana Water Limited (GWL), will finance rehabilitation works on the Bonsa, Daboase and Sekyere Heman Water Supply Systems, which have faced operational challenges affecting water production and service delivery.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, GoldBod Chief Executive Officer, Sammy Gyamfi, Esq., said the Board approved the intervention only after conducting an independent technical assessment to determine the urgency and viability of the project.
He described the investment as part of GoldBod’s broader commitment to responsible mining, environmental sustainability and improving the living conditions of communities impacted by mining activities.

Mr. Gyamfi stressed that Ghana’s mineral wealth should be harnessed not only to generate economic returns but also to support critical public infrastructure and improve the quality of life of citizens.
Receiving the support, Managing Director of Ghana Water Limited, Adam Mutawakilu, expressed appreciation to GoldBod for what he described as a timely intervention.

He said rehabilitating the three water systems would significantly improve water production and restore reliable service to communities that have endured years of supply challenges.
The partnership underscores growing collaboration between public institutions to address infrastructure deficits while promoting sustainable resource management and environmental stewardship.

The project is expected to strengthen access to safe drinking water, improve public health outcomes and demonstrate how Ghana’s mineral resources can be leveraged to deliver tangible benefits to communities.
